STOCKTON — Waterford High held on for a 10-9 victory against Mariposa, forcing a second and deciding game, scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., that will decide the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI championship at Klein Family Field on the campus of the University of the Pacific.
The Wildcats jumped out to an 8-1 lead on Grizzlies ace Leo Kari, whose record dips to 12-2. But Kari pitched for five innings even though he clearly was off his game, allowing Mariposa to save arms for the second game.
The Grizzlies trailed 10-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh and pushed across four runs before the Wildcats were able to extinguish the rally.
