In one of the most anticipated matchups of the season, the Oakdale and Escalon football teams clashed in the “Battle of the 120.”

This rivalry never fails to deliver excitement for the fans, and this year did not disappoint. After a long hard-fought battle, Oakdale came out victorious in overtime, 21-20.

Oakdale’s running back Wes Burford was nothing short of extraordinary. He bulldozed his way through Escalon’s defense, racking up two crucial touchdowns and leading his team in rushing yards. His powerful runs and drive were exactly what Oakdale needed to stay in the game and eventually clinch the win. Burford’s performance was a testament to his team’s skill and resilience, and he proved to be the difference-maker in this high-stakes matchup.

Escalon entered the fourth quarter down 14-0. Instead of folding under the pressure, the home team mounted a dramatic comeback. Quarterback Logan Huebner led the charge, completing 9 of 14 passes for 180 yards. He had his strongest connection with wide receiver Dylan Ball, who had 3 receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Ball played a huge role in tying the game at 14-14.

When the game went to overtime, the tension was palpable. Oakdale got the first possession and capitalized, scoring a touchdown. The Mustangs went for the point-after kick, a decision that would later prove decisive. Escalon answered back with a touchdown of its own, setting up a thrilling final play.

With a chance to win the game, Escalon went for a two-point conversion but was stopped by Oakdale.

Next Friday, Burford and the Mustangs take on Vista Del Lago at home, while the Cougars have another tough matchup at home against the Sonora Wildcats.
